Humanizing Homelessness

Portland’s homeless population is increasing at an alarming rate, highlighting the urgency for community awareness and action. This video examines the lived experiences of the homeless, showcases the efforts of local organizations and community members providing aid, and discusses strategies to bridge the gap between resource providers and those in need. By informing citizens and fostering advocacy, we can collectively support our neighbors and promote a more compassionate society.

Challenging myself

My last project was my first full film that demanded intense groundwork and in-depth research, often putting me in slightly dangerous situations. This hands-on approach pushed me out of my comfort zone, blending creativity with risk, and taught me the power of raw, unfiltered storytelling.

Resources

This film is both educational and resource-driven, designed to help people find support and solutions while shedding light on the experiences of those working to resolve homelessness. Through personal stories and practical insights, it aims to bridge the gap between awareness and action, offering guidance and inspiration for anyone seeking to make a difference in this critical issue.

Outreach

For this project, I had the privilege of connecting with Gary Cobb, an Outreach Coordinator from Central City Concern who shared his inspiring journey from homelessness to advocacy. His unique perspective and firsthand experience brought invaluable depth to the film, highlighting both the struggles and the triumphs of overcoming homelessness. Featuring Gary allowed me to showcase the resilience and impact of individuals dedicated to helping others find stability and hope.
